Alaska Outfitter #1.....
This outfitter "specializes" in guided grizzly bear hunts in some of
the more rugged and  beautiful  Alaskan  countryside. Grizzly bears
are abundant in the Talkeetna mountains of interior Alaska. Hunting valleys rich  with blueberries and their migratory routes are the best methods to encounter  these nomadic bears.  They hunt game unit
13, the only unit in Alaska that is open to grizzly bear hunting  year-round. However; the  best times for hunting are; June,  August, and September  when the  bears'  hides are still at their prime. They are
offering a late July hunt for those  wishing to hunt bears on  or near
an active salmon stream. Their late July, early August hunt for 2005
lasted six hours, resulting in a 7’9”  boar being taken by lunch time.
13 grizzlies were sighted during that six hour hunt.

Colors vary greatly from blonde to dark chocolate to silver and range in size from 7’ to 9’+. Rifles in the .30 caliber range
are best and the .338’s are also very well suited for grizzly bear hunting. Be prepared for hunting condition shots at less than 200 yards. We have hunts available during May, June, July, August and September. Black bear can be incidentally taken free of charge on any grizzly hunt and wolves are free of charge for hunts that take place after August 10.

This outfitter hunts game "unit 13" the only unit in Alaska that has grizzly hunting year-round, but  the best months for hunting are June, August and in September when the bear's hides are still at their prime. Rifles in the .30 caliber range
are best and the .338 calibers are also well suited for Grizzly bear hunting.

This outfitter's hunts are all fly in hunts that are tent based,  backpacking camps.  All hunts are one on one guided personally by the outfitter himself. Success rates are around 80%. Some of the success rates will depend on what
size bear each individual hunter is after. Hunting is done on foot from a base camp. Each day will involve walking 3
to 6 miles and glassing from different vantage points that offers the best chance at locating bears. Hunters should
be in decent physical condition and be prepared to carry a small daypack of approximately 25lbs.

Black bear are free harvest as an incidental while hunting grizzly at no extra charge. The client is responsibly to have
the necessary state tags.  They do not offer any guided black bear hunts that are not in conjunction  with their grizzly
hunts. Black bear in their areas will range from  6’- 7.5’,  a few near 8’ have been sighted. While a black bear are free
to add to any hunt, (these are not combo hunts). Black bear is considered  an incidental take. Once your grizzly has
been taken the hunt is considered over. If a hunter  wishes to stay in camp and hunt black bear  there would  be a flat
fee of $1500 regardless if a bear is harvested or not.

In 2004 - 28 grizzly bears were spotted. In 2005 - 48 grizzly bears were spotted
In 2004-10 black bears were spotted. In 2005- 60 black bears were spotted.
Hunting new areas in ’05, resulting in higher bear numbers!)

Alaska Outfitter #2.....

These  spring grizzly bear hunts are conducted  during
the months of April and May. Hunting grizzly early in the
spring  while there is still  snow cover  allows the outfitter
to  locate their  camps in areas that  would otherwise  be inaccessible. The use of ski equipped aircraft allows the access  to  denning areas where they target large,  male bears.Typically fewer bears are seen during spring hunts
but the chances of killing a large trophy bear are actually better at this time of the year. A spring grizzly will have a hide squaring in excess of 8 feet with some bears over 9
feet with skull sizes averaging somewhere between,  23"
and 26".

Grizzlies in  their area have a tendency to grow  a strikingly colored hide known as  "Toklat". This color phase is rare in
most areas but is actually  quite common in theirs; making for a one of a kind trophy that will rival anything in the world. Because of  their dens, and the time snow  melts,  they have to limit these hunts to  4 per year; with a maximum of two
being float hunts.

Their fall grizzly hunts are conducted during the months of August and September.  These grizzly hunts take place in
a extremely remote part of the state which is rarely hunted. Combining caribou with fall grizzly allows for an opportunity
to harvest two great trophies. A typical fall grizzly  will have a hide squaring  7 1/2 to 8 feet. Unlike  coastal brown bears, these bears live in very remote inhospitable country where food is scarce requiring them to work for a living. This means they can be aggressive,  even more so than any other bear in Alaska. Some of  their combination grizzly/caribou hunts utilize river rafts for transportation once in the field.
