Alberta Outfitter #1.....
We offer Alberta wolf hunts in northwestern Alberta. Our six day Alberta wolf
hunts run from January thru March each year. This outfitter has been guiding
wolf hunts since 1996. During that time, they have been consistently successful
in providing their hunters with opportunities to harvest wolves and coyotes. Their success has been about 90%, with some hunters having multiple opportunities to
take a wolf.
In hunting wolves, it is vital that the guides have an intimate understanding of the
area, as well as know the travel habits of the various wolf packs. For this reason, Hunts are conducted from their home in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains; an
area where the outfitter grew up and where he has continually hunted wolves.
The use of logging and oil roads in their areas gives them access to large areas of country, even in the deep snows of
winter. Many of the areas they hunt adjoin with private property where wolves and coyotes regularly prey on the cattle. Therefore, the landowners are more than happy to assist them and allow them to operate on their property
Wolf hunts take place at baited sites with heated blinds. Tracking and calling of wolf packs is also effective when the conditions are favorable. Expect your shots to be 200 yards when sitting in a blind, and closer when calling wolves or coyotes. While in your blind, the guides will be out looking for sign and checking the other baits, making sure that all
hunters are in the best location to have a successful hunt. Temperature and snow conditions can vary greatly with an average snow depth of inches and an average temperature of 0 Fahrenheit. With the use of heated blinds, it enables
hunters to hunt comfortably in the cold weather.
There is no limit on the number of wolves or coyotes a hunter may take. All wolves and coyotes taken will be brought
back to the lodge for skinning and salting.
Wolf Bow Hunts
They have successfully guided bow hunters for both coyote and wolf. Although it is a challenge, with the use of portable ground blinds and shoot-through screens, it is now very possible for a hunter to take a wolf with a bow. With the use of predator calls, calling a wolf into bow range is an experience long remembered.
Our Alberta wolf hunts are hunted out of the outfitter's fully furnished lodge located 40 minutes south of Grande Prairie Alberta. With 3 bedrooms in the lodge and private cabins located on site you will be assured a comfortable nights sleep. Living room, Dining room and fireplace create a relaxed atmosphere for unwinding after a days hunt. With all bedding, towels and laundry service supplied it is easy to travel with a minimum of luggage. Their areas are a mix of private and public hunting land in the foothills. Alberta's rising ridges of Pine and Poplar gives way to the Rocky Mountains in the background. Using trucks and Quads they access their hunting areas using the logging and oil roads. Hunting stands are located looking over cut blocks and pipelines. Hunters fly into Grande Prairie for wolf hunts where they will be picked up and dropped off at the Grande Prairie airport serviced by Air Canada and West Jet.
PLEASE NOTE
Wildlife Identification Number (W.I.N) is required for all hunters. W.I.N is simply a permanent number received in
advance, to help speed up the licensing process there in Alberta. Only return clients who have hunted Alberta
during the fall of 1998 or later will have this new number already. WIN numbers will be purchased prior to arrival.
