Kentucky Outfitter #1
Specializing in "Kentucky Whitetail Hunts". Thanks to their Kentucky department of Fish and Game, Kentucky is fast becoming a consistant producer of trophy bucks. With the one buck limit many of Kentucky's bucks make it past 2½ years of age allowing many to mature and grow into trophy bucks.
You will be the judge of your trophy buck. They will not limit you on a spread measurement or point restriction, nor will they penalize you for taking any deer. If you hunt with them they have one goal in mind, that
is to put you on a trophy buck.
Their buck hunts take place on twelve farms that spans three counties, totaling over 3,400 private acres. All stand sites are fresh. They stay on top of the deer on their properties and move stands accordingly. Many times they will take you into an area and hang a stand just prior to your hunt. This will afford you that first time chance that is so often your best chance at taking that trophy buck. They know where the deer will be throughout their entire season.
If you are looking for heated blinds, fenced deer and 4 wheeler rides to your stand location, they're not likely what you
are looking for. All of their properties are very scenic and are either owned by them, or exclusively leased by them under strict management practices. The hunting practices on these properties ensures quality game and trophy animals. The hunts are fair chase hunts for wild game in wild and scenic farm country. There are no high fences, and it is not a game farm. This is hunting as it was meant to be!
If you have a physical ailment that prevents you from making the walk or climb they will try to accommodate that. All
tree stand hunters will be required to wear a safety harness, or the hunt will be abandoned. You can choose to use their stands or hunt from your own. They will work to cater to your style of hunting, whether it would be spot and stalking, still hunting or from a blind or stand.
2009 Hunt Prices
The Kentucky archery season runs from early September to mid -January. Typically their early archery season provides some good hunting on bucks that have been well patterned and not pressured. October provides good hunting during the annual crop harvesting where deer can be hunted between feeding and bedding areas. October is also a time to hunt
pre-rut whitetails. During this time they will hunt bottlenecks and saddles that are showing signs of buck activity.
Early Nov. provides for the best hunting. This is the first time they will be offering bowhunting during their state firearm season in an "archery only" area. Hunter orange is equired during this time. They will establish what they feel is a standard (score) for the bucks on the property you are hunting. It is your decision to decide what is and is not a trophy in your book. They do not make that choice for you, nor do they penalize you for taking a smaller buck. They would prefer to see the buttons, spikes and forkies walk, but they won't fine you for harvesting one. They know what their leases can and cannot support in way of harvests.
2009 Western Kentucky
Trophy Buck Hunts
Archery, Crossbow, Muzzleloader,Rifle
The Kentucky Archery season runs from early September to mid January.
For the 2009 season we will not change prices. These hunts will remain limited in numbers and bookings will continue to weigh heavily toward archery hunts. Today we hunt just over 3,400 acres on twelve farms and across 3 counties.
Having a number of properties allows us to spread out hunting which helps control and reduce hunting pressure in general. This also allows us to take advantage of certain activities and patterns several times a year. A perfect example is being able to hunt a "Fresh" harvested corn field pattern multiple times from mid to late September until mid to late October. Having your land in one location and limited sources of agriculture does not support this. Same goes for soy beans. Plantings can be staggered so bean fields remain green and active well into September which has proved great success for us and accounted for putting double digit numbers of bucks in the P&Y books.
Below is a list of hunts we are offering for the 2009 season. We have changed up some of our hunt formats but have not moved away from limiting the number of hunters we book for each hunt.
September 2009
Typically the early archery season provides some great hunting on bucks that have been well patterned and have not been pressured.
September 5th-6th-7th-8th - This hunt can be a 4-day hunt at the rate of $700 or a 3-day hunt for $550. We will book only 4 Archers for this hunt. If you choose this hunt you will be hunting one of the earliest seasons in the country. You will be hunting for P&Y class bucks at a time when they could still be in full velvet. The first 2 weeks of the season is your best chance at taking a buck in full velvet and we suggest anyone wanting a buck in velvet choose this hunt for their best opportunity. A $250 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your hunt dates. Balance is due before your first day of hunting.
September 12th-13th-14th - This is scheduled as a 3-day hunt at the rate of $550. You will be hunting early season P&Y class bucks that are feeding on the rich soybeans of west Kentucky. We will have these bucks patterned and stands in place. Due to high temps, this hunt mostly involves hunting the first few hours of daylight and last light of the day. Bring your Thermacell. Generally we see the deer changing food sources as we get into late Sept. along with their daily patterns. A $250 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your hunt dates. Balance is due before going afield for your first day of hunting.
September 26th-27th-28th - This is scheduled as a 3-day hunt at the rate of $550. This hunt is a 3-day hunt still centered around food sources. Bucks will have shed their velvet by now and began establishing their own core areas. Food sources at this time can continue to be soy beans, soft mass, corn and it's not unusual to have some acorns on the ground. We will have these bucks patterned and stands in place. Temperatures can still be on the hot side and most activity will be early and late in the day. This is the time when food sources can change quickly and a spur in activity resulting from a corn field being cut or a oak dropping acorns. A $250 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your hunt dates. Balance is due before going afield for your first day of hunting.
October 2009
October 10th-11th Youth Firearm Hunt - This is a 2-day season and a hunt cost of $400. Unlike most Outfitters we
do not charge for an extra person being afield with their Youth. We welcome it. This hunt is geared to Youth just getting started in hunting and covers the 2-day hunt for 1 Youth. This hunt involves setups in high traveled areas that almost guarantee deer movement. This is not a doe only hunt. However, this is a hunt that is setup to provide an eventful day
afield while providing your youth hunter the chance to harvest a deer, which means it is more probable that a doe will be taken. A $200 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your hunt dates. Balance is due before your first day of hunting takes place.
If the youth is under the age of 12, there is NO license requirements for the youth.
If 12-15 non-resident Youth pays only resident license fees and not adult prices.
October 17th-18th Early 2-day Muzzleloader Hunt - Come take advantage of the early Muzzleloader season here in Kentucky. Typically the 3rd weekend in October, this is when many of our bucks begin making rubs and scrapes visible
in our hunting areas. Hunting rub lines can be successful, as well as hunting food sources and prime bedding/feeding travel areas. Light rattling can also be productive at this time of the year and the use of grunt tubes. This is a 2-day season/hunt and is $500 for the hunt. We will book only 6-8 hunters for this hunt in 2009. A $250 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your hunt dates. Balance is due before going afield for your first day of hunting.
October 24th-25th-26th - This is currently setup as a 3-day hunt but can be expanded into 4 or 5 days. The 3-day hunt is $600. If you are a bow bender, this is a great time to be in the woods in West Kentucky. Each and every year the beginning of our rut start to take shape during this time. Trophy Bucks become more active and begin making their statements, making rubs, scrapes, responding to grunting, doe bleats and rattling can be affective during this time as well. Warm weather can take its toll, but we traditionally see good action during this time of the year. A $250 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your dates. Balance is due before for your first day of hunting.
November 2009 Archery
November 1-13th - Any 3-day hunt during this period is at the rate of $750. These hunts proceed the State firearm opener. This time typically covers the rut in Kentucky from chasing to the peek breeding period. A lot of chasing takes place during this week. Bucks are more active by the day. They are cruising for does, making rubs, checking scrapes and responding to calls. The earlier part of this period supports success with rattling and decoying. Arguably this is one of the best times to arrow a trophy buck. This is a 3 -day hunt unless otherwise arranged. A $300 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your dates. Balance is due before your first day of hunting.
***We will only hunt the first 10 days of the 2009 Firearm Season*** We limit the number of hunts we book*** Limiting hunts helps control pressure *** Limiting pressure supports better hunts not only for rifle season but also for our late archery hunters and the late Muzzleloader season ***
November 2009 Rifle - The 2009 Rifle Season will open on November 14, 2009 - Second Saturday in November is the traditional Firearm Season Opener.
November 14th-15th-16th (Booked for 2009)- The 3-day hunt is $950. Experience the opportunity to firearm deer hunt during the peak of the rut in Kentucky. We will set expectations for the area you are hunting and be able to provide specific information about bucks you should look for. Our firearm hunts are very limited and we suggest booking early. A $450 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your dates. Balance is due before your first day of hunting.
November 17th - 19th (5 openings left) 3-day hunt is $950. Don't worry about not being here for the opening weekend hunt. We experience some of the best hunting mid-season and have always seen good bucks taken. We will have stands and properties not yet hunted which means little to no pressure. We will set expectations for the area you are hunting and be able to provide specific information about bucks you should look for. Our firearms hunts are very limited and we suggest booking early. A $450 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your dates. Balance is due before your first day of hunting.
November 20th - 22nd (6 openings left) - 3-day hunt is $950. Make no mistake you will have the same opportunity
to harvest that trophy buck as those hunting before you. We hunt several properties which are spread out and across 3 different counties. Because of this and the fact we limit the number of hunters, pressure is not a concern to us. In most years we have properties not hunted until this 2nd weekend hunt and in some years we've not hunted some properties
until December. Why? Because we do not over book. We keep pressure in check to help make for a better experience
and hunt. A $450 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your dates. Balance is due before your first day of hunting.
December 2009 Muzzleloader Hunts
December 12th - 20th (4 openings left) - This is a 9-day Kentucky Muzzleloader season. There is no restriction on Muzzleloading equipment at this time. Scopes, In-lines, and smokeless powder are legal. A 3-day hunt runs $700.
Most years we will see a 2nd rut during this time. Many bucks will be trailing does and checking areas that does are feeding/bedding trying to find the doe coming into heat for a second time. This time of the year can be very cold, rainy
and windy. Food sources will be an important part of our setups. Hunting will be conducted early mornings and in the afternoons. A $250 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your dates. Balance is due before going afield for your first day of hunting.
December 28th-January 17th, 2009 - We consider the late season anything after the December Muzzleloader season. Any 3-day archery hunt during this time is $150 per day. This hunt isn't cheap because it's a bad hunt. We just understand bow hunting and know after pressure from the rifle season hunting gets tougher. The woods are open, temps are usually cold and the weather can be pretty harsh. Most deer are just trying to feed and keeping out of the elements. We will continue to harvest deer right on up until the last day of season. We see our lowest success on bucks on this hunt, but
the potential is there to tag a great buck. Most bucks are focusing on feeding if they are not laid up. We will hunt tight to bedding areas or food sources. Both these tactics will give you the greatest chance at harvesting a late season buck. A $250 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your dates. Balance is due before going afield for your first day of hunting.
*** To book days beyond our normal 3-day hunts please contact us for availability, dates and rates. Days beyond our normal 3-day hunts are at the rate of $200 per day for Archery and Muzzleloader and $300 for Rifle hunts.***
