New Mexico Outfitter #1.....

Private Land, Guaranteed License, Rifle Hunts
                                                                                                                           Ranch 1
These New Mexico elk hunts have had a high success rate over the last
five years which is directly attributable to their guides and their incredible hunting  ability. Most are locals who  have hunted in these  mountains for
years and are expert hunters. If you will come prepared to hunt these are
the guides to lead you to the elk promise land.

Their camps are kept comfortable and running smooth by their top-notch,
cooks and wranglers. The cooks keep you well fed and the wranglers will
take  care of  the pack string, and all  the packing of  your game and gear.
The hunting is superb, but it is these peoples'  efforts  that make it all run smoothly.

Guaranteed  licenses are available for private, land hunts in New Mexico  via the landowner, permit system. Ranchers
are allotted landowner  permits based for  their acreage and on an elk-use factor.  This outfitter is able to  obtain these
permits to offer you an elk hunt with guaranteed-license should you not wish to pursue the draw system or if you want
to back-up your draw attempt with a guaranteed-tag for your elk hunt.

This outfitter will be conducting guaranteed-license, hunts on private land, located in the foothills of  the Sacramento Mountains and in the mesa country of northeastern New Mexico. They will be offering both archery and rifle elk hunts
in the 2004/2005 seasons on 8,000 acres of prime elk habitat in the edge of the Sacramento Mountains.

This ranch borders the  famous,  Mescalero Reservation for over 7 miles. This ranch has produced near 100%  shot
opportunities at  "300 + Bull"s  for their  hunters over  the last  three years. Each year over  one half of  their hunters
actually harvested a  320 or better bull! There is no  finer free-ranging trophy elk hunt in the country.  No high fences
and no releasing of elk, just a fair-chase trophy elk hunt. A maximum of two hunters per hunt will be booked on this
 ranch.

Access to the hunting areas will be with 4-wheel drive vehicles and ATV's, after that the hunt will require
you to cover the hunting grounds on foot to locate the bulls. If you can reasonably stick with your  guide,
you "Will" get a shot opportunity at a 300-class or larger bull.

The primary hunting tactics for the archery hunts will be waiting for the elk near
water and calling. The calling  techniques will be used primarily when  the bulls
are active and bugling. They have some very rough  terrain on this ranch that is
heavily  vegetated,  which can make the calling game physically demanding at
times.  Waiting at  water holes can be an effective tactic during those hot days
with little bugling activity, especially in the afternoons.

The  rifle hunts will be more spot and stalk type hunts. The bulls will  feed on  the
slopes of the canyons at night and during first and last light.Glassing extensively
in the low  light hours to locate the bulls is the primary tactic. Once spotted it's a matter of closing ground to get within shooting range. Waiting near water holes is
a tactic that is occasionally used during the earlier rifle hunts.

The licenses are guaranteed without having to go through the draw. Lodging  will
be in town. All meals and field transportation will be provided. Airport service will
be available into El Paso, TX or Albuquerque, NM.

Ranch #2
Cow Elk Hunt
The outfitter has secured the hunting rights to approximately, 13,000 acres of prime elk country in north central New Mexico. Their cow hunts will be conducted during November, when the elk population on the ranch reaches it's peak.
The snow in the high country of the Sangre De Cristo and Cimarron Mountains moves many of the elk onto this lower altitude ranch. Add  these elk to  their already plentiful resident elk population and you get the best  hunting situation possible. On the average you can expect to see 50 to 100 elk per day.

The terrain on this ranch consists mainly of dark timber, aspens and numerous meadows with abundant creeks and
lakes. The elevation ranges from 7,500 feet to just above 9,000 feet.  The area is a high mesa,  slightly dissected by streams, but is  fairly  flat and relatively, easy to get around in compared  to most elk country,  especially that in the Sacramento Mountains.

The hunting areas will be accessed primarily using  ATV's and  4WD vehicles, but all hunting  will then be done solely
on foot. The ATV's and 4WD vehicles will only provide you a way to get close to the hunting grounds and to be able to access different areas of the ranch.

Their primary hunting tactics for this cow hunt will be, moving slowly along the edges of  the meadows in the mornings
and evenings, glassing ahead  for elk. During the days still hunting slowly through the burn areas and small meadows located in the timber can also be a productive technique. In some areas, the cows bed where they can be still-hunted
even during the day.

This outfitter has taken 25 cow hunters to date on this ranch over the last two years and all have enjoyed 100% success.

Accommodations will be provided in their very nice lodge located on their ranch. First-class meals will be served at the lodge morning and evenings. A sack lunch is provided for the day. Hunters fly into either Albuquerque or Santa Fe, NM.

New Mexico Outfitter #2.....

T his New Mexico elk hunt is on 8 private parcels of property within the state
of  New Mexico,  totaling right at 200,000 acres of quality elk,  mule deer and antelope habitat.

They have elk and mule deer hunting property adjoining 5 miles of the famed, Jicarilla Apache Reservation, game management unit # 5a,  renowned for it's fantastic, hunting opportunities. It is 8 miles West of Lindrith, New Mexico.

He also is offering guided New Mexico elk hunts on 2 tracts of prime, private elk hunting country  just northwest of  Mt. Taylor game management unit # 7 and unit # 9 and 45 miles out of Grants, New Mexico in the Cibola Mountain District, which produces some  very exciting archery, black powder and high power rifle, elk hunting opportunities. This outfitter offers quality elk hunting adventures.

These properties adjoin the "Floyd Lee Ranch" on its north and west borders, well known for its abundant elk herd. The three elk hunting properties mentioned, combine to a total of over 100,000 prime elk habitat

All of their elk hunts are licensed through the "Private Land Owner Tag System" so that there is no draw process to wait out. Simply stated, you sign up with this outfitter for a hunt this fall and you will be going hunting this fall.

This outfitter guarantees a reasonable shooting opportunity  to every one of  his clients, for whatever type of  game they
are in pursuit of. If the client fails to have that opportunity that client will be refunded 1/3 of the hunt fee itself. How many outfitters do you come upon willing to back up that kind of commitment!?!

They vow to keep the number of hunters in camp as low as is necessary to maintain the type of quality hunt every
hunter wants to go home remembering. They can and will,  tailor hunt dates to suit a  hunter's needs if necessary.
They are capable of scheduling, any five day period for a hunter, from the beginning of  September until the end of
March providing they don't precede any public hunt with the weapon used.

They also carry out numerous herd management, cow elk hunts for those not able to make a bull hunt, for whatever
reason. These hunts are great freezer packers as  well as a great  way to start a new hunter out  (a little less of  the
fever if you will).

Unit 7 & 9
Transportation Mode and Hunting Methods
All New Mexico elk hunts in units 7 & 9 are carried out using 4X4  vehicles.
Both of these hunting units are located 40 miles northwest of Grants, New Mexico in the foothills of  the extinct, v olcano  "Mt. Taylor". The areas this outfitter hunts, are over 100,000 acres of prime, elk hunting habitat.

Methods used for hunting elk in unit #9 during muzzleloader hunts vary
from calling to  the elk to spot and stalk.  Also hunting in the vicinity of waterholes can be very successful and unit 9 always provides exciting,
rut action during the elk season.

As for unit  #7, it is primarily a spot and stalk area due to its sparse cover,  especially  when compared to unit #9.  The
majority of hunts in unit 7 take place after the rut has run it's course. Generally speaking, the bulls will be in "Bachelor Herds" during this hunt. This property is used for livestock grazing.

Lodging, Meals and Guiding
All meals are prepared on site by their competent cooks, and all of  their guide staff  for these hunts are local residents. Accommodations for hunts in unit #9 and  #7 are provided  in a spacious, renovated,  ranch house located in  McKinley
County,  approximately 40 miles northeast of  Grants, New Mexico. The ranch house has 4 bedrooms, a very spacious
living room, dining and kitchen area as well as bathroom with a shower and water provided throughout. Heat is provided
with a fireplace, pot-belly stove and when necessary, portable electric heating units.

Unit 5A
 Transportation Mode and Hunting Methods
All hunting in unit 5a is carried out in 4-wheel drive vehicles.

New Mexico elk hunts in unit 5a can be a little out of  the normal. For the
most part "spot and stalk" methods will be used while glassing the open
parks and sage brush flats. After morning hunts you take up stands near
water holes frequently used by the bulls. The reason for this tactic is that
the terrain in unit 5a consists of  very thick cover such as,  Bigelow Sage,
Rabbit Brush and Chamise,  not to mention some  very dense, stands of
Juniper and Pinion Pine trees.  To push this type of  heavy growth usually
will just push the elk out of the country.

Lodging, Meals and Guiding
All of their clients for these hunts will be lodged on site in a combination of  a refurbished  wood cabin and some RV's.
These are furnished by the outfitter. Their cabin is rustic and has a porch area  that makes the  whole trip  worthwhile.
All meals will be prepared on-site and are fit for a king. Guides for these hunts will be a combination of local residents
and their staff; all very familiar with their surrounding country and elk.

New Mexico Outfitter #3.....

This outfitter offers New Mexico elk hunts on private and public lands.

PRIVATE LAND NEW MEXICO ELK HUNTS: WITH GUARANTEED LICENSE
These New Mexico elk hunts occur on two separate private ranches in northeastern New Mexico. This ranch has the potential and  does produce some 300 + B&C class bulls for
their hunters.

The elk hunts on this ranch are  sold as 1on1 hunts. This is done  to continue to harvest
trophy class elk off of  the ranch and maintain a high hunter  success. The hunts have a wounding/loss rule. Any wounded animal not retrieved counts as your harvested animal.
A second animal can be hunted for and when harvested or if wounded, the hunter will be charged an additional fee.

The cost of the hunt includes meals, guide at a 1x1 level, transportation during the hunt, and trophy preparation of
the animal. The hunters are responsible for  hotel accommodations, their personal gear, weapon, transportation to
and from camp, and license. Because the outfitter is always looking at additional ranches, acquiring new ranches,
and negotiating different leases, the price of the hunts may be different than advertised.

Bow Hunts:
The hunt occurs on the last seven days of the season, to take advantage of the rut of the elk. The peak of the rut, in New Mexico, normally occurs in late September.

Rifle Hunts:
Rifle hunts begin in early October, to take advantage of the rut and the bugling of the bulls and run through the end of January. Rifle hunts are any 5 consecutive days from October through January.

Carson National Forest - Unit 52
This rifle, muzzleloader and archery elk hunt takes place in
game unit 52 located in north central New Mexico. This unit
is a roadless, wilderness area that is 300,000 acres in size
and prohibits off  road vehicles and off road traffic of any type.
The area has numerous open roads within the unit often two
to three miles apart,  which allows the hunter to access the
areas to hunt by foot or  horseback  while still being remote.

This unit has an excellent elk population and the number of  hunters is controlled, as opposed to most of Colorado’s
public land units. The odds of drawing a license are excellent, utilizing their outfitter's number. We offer two types of
hunts in this unit:

Carson National Forest Unit 51
Unit 51 is approximately 380,000 acres (594 square miles). This unit is not a roadless unit and the use of four wheelers is allowed on any designated road. The nearest town is Tres Piedres, NM at the northeast corner of the unit. This unit allows the use of ATV’s on all roads and for retrieval of your game.

Guided: These hunts include the use of  their outfitter number on the application for drawing a license, an appropriate number of guides, accommodations, meals, transportation during the hunt, retrieval of game and trophy preparation of
the animal. The hunters are responsible for putting in for the license with the outfitter's help,  his or  hers personal gear, weapon, and transportation to and from camp.

Self-guided: These hunts are for  those hunters that want a quality hunt,  feel confident about hunting  elk on their
own, and do not want a guide and the hassle of  bringing a camp with them. The  self-guided hunts include the use of
the outfitter's number on the application for drawing a license, a knowledgeable person in camp with maps of the area
to direct the hunters to good areas, accommodations, meals, retrieval of game, trophy preparation of  the animal. The
hunter is responsible for putting in for the license with our help, his / her personal gear, weapon, and transportation to
and from camp and during the hunt.
